Description
This is an outdoor mural on the side of a building in Walnut Grove, California where I grew up. The Walnut Grove Hotel was built in 1918 and destroyed by fire in 1969 after I had long left the area. I was sad to hear that news. This hotel was a fun place. The front of building was general store and later post office, while the back was Public Hall with stage. After the fire of 1969, the hotel was rebuilt and re-named Boon Dox Botel. It now included a large boat dock. Big ships and large pleasure craft sailed up the river from the Bay Area. The Boon Dox was the place to be.
While I lived there as a teenager, the hotel was semi-functioning. Several hotel guest rooms were available but not all. The bar/lounge and restaurant were doing business. Downstairs in the back we a large hall where many parties and other functions took place. Since those years, there was another fire or the building may have been condemned. It has since been torn down and nothing replaces it.
