Description
Carousel animals are used not just for rides on carousels but for decoration as well. This carousel camel with poinsettias decorates a hotel mall in Honolulu.
The earliest known depiction of a carousel was in a Byzantine bas-relief dating around 500 A.D., so carousels have been around for a long long time. The earliest ones offered baskets to ride in.
More recently, carousels offered horses and ponies. In still more recent times, other animals were added, much to the delight of those who favored certain animals.
Carousels are almost always found at carnivals and fairs where people expect to enjoy something different in their celebrations. In earlier times, it was fashionable for a lady to be seen riding a carousel. Carousels are mostly ridden by children these days, with a few exceptions of the adults who accompany their children.
Though you find these Christmas carousel images in my Holiday Greeting Card gallery, they are also available in prints and any other formats offered here.
The artist, Mary Deal, is also an award-winning author of mystery/thrillers, a short story collection and writers' reference books. Read about it here:
