Description
This carousel white horse is used for decoration in a hotel mall in Honolulu, Hawaii. Seeing carousel animals in places other than on a carousel, and decorated for Christmas too, is a delight for young and old alike.
The earliest known depiction of a carousel was in a Byzantine bas-relief dating around 500 A.D., so carousels have been around for a long long time. The earliest ones offered baskets to ride in.
More recently, carousels offered horses and ponies. In still more recent times, other animals were added, much to the delight of those who favored certain animals.
Carousels are almost always found at carnivals and fairs where people expect to enjoy something different in their celebrations. In earlier times, it was fashionable for a lady to be seen riding a carousel. Carousels are mostly ridden by children these days, with a few exceptions of the adults who accompany their children.
Any images that you find here in my Greeting Cards gallery are also available for prints and any other formats offered here, even iPhone covers and more.
