Description

The ipu heke is the larger ipu. Both are hollowed-out gourds used as types of drums in Hawaiian music. They are slapped or pounded on the ground or other surface to make the drum sound.

The red ukulele is the prize of my ukulele collection. While it is more decorative than used for much music, it has a good tonal quality.

Tapa cloth today represents the art work patterns of Ancient Hawaii. The old patterns were painted on bark cloth, made from pounded tree bark.

The mat behind all of this is made from lauhala leaves and commonly known as a lauhala mat. Large pieces of these mats are used today are floor coverings.

The red lei is made of satin ribbon. These leis are made to last and are used during the holidays or special occasions, like weddings.
