Description
Hollyhocks are bright flowers that grow on tall upward reaching stalks. The flowers begin to bloom near the lower sections and bloom successively upward as the stalks also grow upward. The flowers can grow singularly or in groups and both can happen on the same stalks. They can be pink, white, purple, or yellow. The foliage has a fuzzy growth of star-shaped hairs. These flowers can be annual, biannual or perennial plants.
My first remembered contact with any flower was when I was about one year old. I was excited about the color of the flowers and allowed to touch them. But when I touched the leaves, I didn’t like the fuzzy feel. However, that did not diminish my love of these delicate beauties. I am happy to find them growing in Arizona.
