This speckled orchid macro is yet another in my collection of exotic flowers. Speckled orchids grow in a few varieties but all are in the phalaenopsis family. this macro against black is a pretty stunning image in my orchid collection.
Currently, between 21,950 and 26,049 accepted species of orchids are known. The term applied to all is Orchidaceae, with more than 100,000 hybrids. The Vanilla plant is from the orchid family. All orchids are perennial plants, lacking a trunk. They are seasonal, with some varieties flowering during spring-summer; others during fall-winter.
Though many people grow orchids in The Islands, many species can be found displayed in arboretums and shows. More and more, some species can be found growing wild.
