Description
African Butterfly Iris, also known as wood iris, fortnight lily, African iris, Japanese iris, depending on the regions where they originate. There are six known varieties. Most species originated and are native to central and southern Africa. They differ from the commonly known Iris in having flowers with six free tepals that are not joined into a tube at their bases. Though identified in Africa in 1866, they now grow in many countries worldwide. This Iris is slightly an off-white color. It's known as a Dietes Bicolor Iris.
I have posted several versions of this beautiful Butterfly Iris at the request of several people who asked for at least two different versions of some of my floral images. Also, one of my oil paintings of a Butterfly Iris can be found in my Oil Paintings collection.
