Description
This perpetually green tree is known as the wishing tree, and located at High Point Overlook in the desert Red Rock Canyon, Nevada, under normally clear blue skies. Tourists are told this is a Wishing Tree, or a Magic Tree. They are told to touch it and make a wish. It is a myth but brings some sort of attention to the tree, which is famous just for being. The tree is very old and struggles to thrive in the sand of this desert landscape with little water and still grows. I did not learn how old the tree might be. From the High Point Overlook, you can see many of the Calico Hills, red rock layered mountains and cliffs. You can see incredible views across the entire valley. At one time, a wealthy rancher had his home and ranch compound down in this valley. Judging from the heat and isolation, I can only guess why the ranch is no longer there, but parts of the stone fences and such can still be seen.
