These cars were photographed at the Kauai Farm Bureau Fair which arrives on the island of Kauai each year. The lighting was bright and colorful. This image would make a wonderful memory for a child’s room.
Bumper cars had their heyday from the late 1920s through the 1950s. While they are still around today, they have lost some popularity and many county fairs and carnivals do not offers these rides. They were a favorite of both adults and children.
The cars are electrical and variations draw power from either the metal floor or the ceiling. Usually, a pole runs from the car to the ceiling. These cars have an accelerator and a steering wheel. The idea is to ram other cars and see who you can knock around. I remember that the sudden jolts gave me headaches, but they were fun when we were kids.
