A colorful portion of the East side of Main street in historic Locke, California. The Chinatown of Locke, California was built by Chinese immigrants in 1912 and, for a while, was the largest Chinatown outside of China. When the nearby town of Walnut Grove burned to the ground due to an accidental fire, immigrants settled in Locke.
Locke was known for its saloons, houses of ill-repute, gambling, opium and other activities of reputation. Today, it is a thriving area for artists and includes the famous Al the Wops restaurant.
