The International Marketplace, on Kalakaua Avenue, the man road through the Waikiki area of Honolulu, Hawaii, has been torn down. Only the tree remains. In its place will be yet another high rise. I image they plan to include markets and shops on the street level. However, in that area, there are only designer stores.
This used to be a shopping area where people all over the world bought souvenirs. I have several pictures of this place for remembrance.
The large tree in the background was where the radio station KCCN had its beginnings. They were in a tiny booth and platform high up in the tree and broadcast to shoppers below. I am truly sad to see this place destroyed.
