Description
This lioness in the Phoenix zoo lay peacefully asleep in the patchy shade. Then her ears went up. She rose slowly but her expression was fully alert. She turned her head and started creeping from the left to the right of where I stood. She seemed attracted to a woman fumbling in her purse, which was shiny and flashy. Something tinkled. I believe the lioness heard it much earlier than me.
Big cats senses are so intense. Lions are some of my favorites to watch among zoo animals. However, I would be excited beyond belief if i could go on safari and see the big cats in the wild.
As I watched the intense expression of the lioness, I realized I needed to capture it. She stood so still and remained that way till someone told the woman with the purse to look at how she was causing the lion to react. All of the action had the watching crowd enthralled.
This is the image I captured. Somewhere in that stare, I also see the lioness knowing she could not reach the woman with the purse. Do you see it in her expression?
