Lumahai is also famous for producing green glass sand. The green sand is actually green glass, called Olivine. It is created in volcanoes with the heat of volcanic action. As it tumbled down the mountains and into the sea from the rivers, it is broken into fine pieces or sand. Pockets of green sand can be found on this beach. As you walk along and see a dark spot here and there, if you dig down, you find a pocket just below the surface.
