Description
Lagoon behind the south wing restaurants. The lagoons were where the night time torch lighting shows took place. The buildings and other essentials on the grounds of the famous old Coco Palms Hotel on Kauai has fallen into ruin. Still, the images left are gorgeous.
The Coco Palms Resort opened in Wailua on Kauai, Hawaii on January 25, 1953. Scenes from Elvis Presley's movie Blue Hawaii were filmed there. Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby are among the Hollywood elite that helped make the place famous.
Hurricane Iniki decimated the entire facility in 1992. The Resort had since remained closed and falling into repair. Now it is under re-construction, to open as the original resort but run by Hyatt in 2017.
The artist, Mary Deal, is also an award-winning author of mystery/thrillers, a short story collection and writers' reference books. Read about it here:
