Description
African Butterfly Iris, painted from a photograph taken in my Kauai neighborhood in Hawaii. I had previously taken a deposit on the painting, but the sale has eventually fallen through.
African Butterfly Iris, also known as wood iris, fortnight lily, African iris, Japanese iris, depending on the regions where they originate. There are six known varieties. Most species originated and are native to central and southern Africa. They differ from the commonly known Iris in having flowers with six free tepals that are not joined into a tube at their bases. Though identified in Africa in 1866, they now grow in many countries worldwide.
I have also posted several photographic versions of this beautiful Butterfly Iris at the request of several people who asked for at least two different versions of some of my floral images. You'll find them in the White Flowers collection and some in my Yellow Flowers collection.
The artist, Mary Deal, is also an Amazon best selling award-winning author of mystery/thrillers, romance, a short story collection, a writers' reference, and self-help. Read about it here: http://tinyurl.com/3z8pm3f

Beautiful painting of this gorgeous iris, Mary!! Love the composition, colors, blending of colors. I would like to invite you to submit this image to my group "Amazing Irises". It would make a great addition to our group. F/L/T/FB

This is so beautiful, Mary! I've been to HI a couple times but never saw (or noticed?) this variety of iris...truly unique and perfectly painted! vote

This is an African Butterfly Iris. It is no bigger than 2-3 inches in diameter. I just had to make it big and bold because I was so taken with it.
