Description
The curve of the nautilus shell has always intrigued me. Usually seen are the shells sliced in half with the chambers exposed. I have an affinity for whole sea shells. Shells have a beauty all their own but once I know what's inside, I want the whole shell intact.
This nautilus was a gift from a friend, to add to my collection of sea shells. It is not found in Hawaii. My friend was a world traveler now dispensing with her collectibles.
At its height, this nautilus shell is about 10 inches tall. The markings and the colors are what holds my interest in this particular shell. The grooves are made as the animal inside grows. The colors are opalescent, iridescent, the hues changeable.
Other images of this shell, particularly, an exciting macro, can be found in my Sea Shell and Beachcombing gallery, as well in the Square Format gallery.
The artist, Mary Deal, is also an award-winning author of mystery/thrillers, a short story collection and writers' reference books. Read about it here:
