Description
This feather fan with it's embroidered rose inset belonged to Hawaii's Queen Emma.
Queen Emma ( January 2, 1836 to April 25, 1885) was born in Honolulu to parents who were a High Chief and High Chiefess. She became Queen to King Kamehameha IV (original name Alexander Liholiho) from 1856 till his death in 1863. She then ran for office, hoping to be the new monarch but lost to the man who would become King Kalakaua.
The history of Royal Hawaiians is exceptionally interesting.
